1980s-90s L.A COUCK AND PHILIPPI Vintage Gas Price Sign
Regular
Unleaded PLU
Super Unleaded
「COUCK AND PHILIPPI
LOS ANGELES」

1980s-90s L.A. COUCK AND PHILIPPI Vintage Gas Price Sign
An absolutely MASSIVE vintage gas price sign marked “COUCK AND PHILIPPI” from Los Angeles, California☆
Just look at the SIZE!!
Even when held by an adult, this thing is huge!!
With its heavy black metal frame and bold yellow × black × white color scheme, it looks like a piece taken straight from an old American gas station♪
Across the top is the large wording:
“Self Service”
Below that, three different fuel grades are displayed:
Regular
Unleaded PLU
Super Unleaded
Each section still shows a price of “100 9/10,” representing $1.009 per gallon!!
And that classic American tradition of displaying fuel prices down to 9/10 of a cent makes this piece even cooler◎
Another great feature—this sign is DOUBLE-SIDED☆
Designed so drivers approaching from either direction could see the fuel prices, the sign is built into a large black metal frame with the rugged, utilitarian construction you would expect from a commercial gas station display♪
Even better, the bottom of the sign still retains the original manufacturer marking:
“COUCK AND PHILIPPI
LOS ANGELES”
This detail indicates that the sign was manufactured by a Los Angeles-based company.
Small original markings like this are exactly the kind of details that make vintage pieces so interesting◎
We have not found a direct date marking on the sign, but based on the approximately $1-per-gallon fuel price, the Regular / Unleaded fuel grade configuration, as well as the overall design and construction, we estimate this piece to date from around the late 1980s to early 1990s.
And above all, the WEATHERED CONDITION is incredible!!
The white areas show extensive cracking and peeling, portions of the graphics are heavily worn and missing, and the yellow sections have plenty of scratches, scuffs, dents, and dirt.
The metal frame also shows rust, paint loss, and years of natural wear!!
This is the kind of authentic OLD GAS STATION character that simply cannot be recreated by a clean modern reproduction♪
Place it in a garage, auto shop, motorcycle shop, diner, or American vintage store and this one piece will completely transform the atmosphere!!
A seriously impressive vintage display packed with the character of classic American roadside culture◎
