「ROAD WORK AHEAD」は、この先で道路工事が行われていることをドライバーへ知らせるための警告標識。現在のアメリカでもW20-1として規定されている定番のワークゾーンサインです。オレンジ地×ブラックレターという工事・メンテナンス区間用の配色は、1971年版のMUTCDから採用されています。

A massive “ROAD WORK AHEAD” road sign—the type used to warn drivers of construction zones on American roads!!
The bright ORANGE diamond-shaped body with huge, bold BLACK lettering is about as classic AMERICAN ROADSIDE as it gets☆

“ROAD WORK AHEAD” is a warning used to alert drivers that road construction or maintenance is taking place ahead.
In the United States, this familiar design is designated as the W20-1 work-zone warning sign.
The orange background with black lettering—now instantly associated with American construction and maintenance zones—was adopted into the MUTCD standard beginning with the 1971 edition.
